If anyone is interested, the RJ45 connector is wired like this (CC128 PCB version V2.3H)

Pin = Use
1 = +v Unregulated (Same as the PSU input)
2 = PIC chip pin 52 (PGC)
3 = +V Regulated
4 = GND
5 = PIC chip pin 47 (PGD)
6 = PIC chip pin 9 (Program Voltage (nMCLR))
7 = Unit RX
8 = Unit TX

So the PIC can be reprogrammed with the correct cable/interface,
and TX/RX are connected (as they are in the USB to Serial cable), so some commands may be able to be sent to the unit !! (maybe not with this firmware)

PS the reason I was inside the unit was to see if I could add a serial connector instead of the RJ45 connector.

Added a MAX233A chip inside the unit (4 connections to PCB) and fitted a DB9 female connector to the back.
Now works with a standard RS232 port. !!!

In regards to this cable, Is it possible to extend the original cable or make a longer one? Technically i dont see an issue here seeing that it is using serial comms between the unit and usb plug?
I intend on wall mounting the unit and wish to install cabling in the wall cavity if this is possible.
